The Engineering Department facilitates the design and construction of the City's infrastructure, including water and sewer mains, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, asphalt, electrical, water treatment facilities and sewage treatment facilities.
Waste Collection and Disposal
Curbside collection of solid waste and compostables is done by the Public Works Department on an alternate-week cycle -- one week they collect waste, the following week they collect compostables.
Water Works
Public Works is responsible for the maintenance of the water system, including: pumping and treatmet, frost protection, water meters and water main maintenance and repair.
Whitehorse Snow and Ice Control
The city operates with a limited snow removal budget and therefore must establish priorities to provide the greatest benefit to the majority of the travelling public. In setting priorities, consideration is given to criteria such as traffic volume, road classification, road geometrics, terrain, transit, emergency services, drift exposure, and drainage problems.
