FIND A UNIVERSITY IN CANADA You've decided to further your education in Canada, so the next step is to find which one is right for you an apply. It is important that you do your research about universities you are considering to find our about their curriculum, how many other international students attend and the community the universities are located in. You are encouraged to contact the university via email or phone to ask any quesrtions you may have. Also take time to learn more about the city in which your university is located, this will give you a good understanding of the community and history of the city you will be living in and let you adapt to your knew home quicker. The more answers you have, the better you will be positioned to select the right university for you. You can start your research by finding which universities offer the program you are looking for at Universities Canada. One important thing that you must ensure is that the post-secondary institution that you are applying to is a Designated Learning Institue. You can search the official list of Designated Learning Institutes for your institution.
FINDING A SCHOLARSHIP Applying for and being awarded a scholarship to help further your education in Canada can help pay for tuition, books or living expenses. You may be eligible to apply for scholarships in your home country as well as in Canada. Canada has several scholarships that international students can apply for. The scholrships availabe fr you to apply for depend on the country you are from and your field of study. In most cases the university to which you have been accepted will nominate or apply on your behalf, ask the adminidtrator at your university which scholarships you may be able to apply for. Keep in mind that there are deadlines for submitting scholarship application so be sure to start search and applying for scholarships in good time.
WHAT IS A STUDY PERMIT AND HOW DO I APPLY? A study permit is an authorised, written paper that gives you permission to study in Canada as a foreign student. Generally speaking all international students require a study permit, but there are a few exceptions such as if you are performing duties in Canada as part of the Visiting Forces Act.
Applying for a study permit is a simple task, but you need to prepare the required documents first.
1. ACCEPTANCE LETTER: You will need an acceptance letter from the school or University that you have applied to. This letter will show the start and end dates of your studies, the date by which you must register and the tuition fees that you pay.
2. IDENTIFICATION: You will need a valid passport or if you are a US citizen, a valid passport or alternative identification.
3. FINANCIAL INFORMATION: You will ba asked to provide proof that you can support yourself financially, including any family members that are joining you during your studies. This proof can include, but is not limited to, bank statements for the past 4 months, proof that you've paid your tuition and housing fees, student loan or scholarship. The amount of money required in 2018 to support yourself per year (in addition to your tuition) is $10,000 or $11,000 if you are studying in Quebec
In addition, you may have to fulfill other requirements after you've applied. These requiremnts vary and they will be communcated to you after you have applied for your study permit. Applying for a Study Permit can be done online or by mail. The fee for applying for a Study Permit in 2018 is $150
WORKING WHILE YOU STUDY Working while you study can help you get valuable experience that may assist you in getting your dream job once you graduate. Whether it an internship or a part-time job, you can search search for jobs for free across Canada. You will need a Social Insurance Number for paid positions. The Social Insurance Number (SIN) is a unique nine-digit number, personal to you, that you will need to work in Canada or to have access to government programs and benefits.
