When writing the Embassy and Consulates General, please include a self addressed, stamped envelope with your information request.

When faxing, please be sure to include your full name and complete mailing address. Faxes are answered in the same manner as written inquiries.

The Embassy and Consulates General are closed on all American and Canadian holidays

Petitions for immediate relatives of legal permanent residents and for employment-based immigration can be filed only in the United States.

Hours of Service: 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, nonimmigrant visa applications only until 11:30 a.m.

General Information: Most approved visas for in-District applicants are ready for pick-up at 3:00 p.m. the afternoon of the interview. Out-of-district visas will be ready for pick-up at 10:00 a.m. the next working day.

Consulate General Halifax:

Covers: Atlantic Canada: New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and P.E.I.

Hours of Service: The Consulate is open Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Visa services are provided at the following times only: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Visa services are not provided at any other times.

General Information: Landed immigrants, students, and holders of employment authorizations who reside in Atlantic Canada (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland) are seen on a first-come, first-served basis. Visa applicants who reside in the United States or who are visitors to Canada must obtain an appointment for an interview. Approved visas are generally issued the same morning the visa application is received.

General Information: Immigrant visa applicants may have their fingerprints taken any workday Monday through Friday at 2:00 p.m. by presenting a letter from the National Visa center or from the Consulate. There is a U.S.$25 processing fee.

Consulate General Vancouver:

Covers: British Columbia and Yukon Territory

Hours of Service: The Visa Information Window is open to the public from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Landed immigrants of Canada and holders of student or employment authorization may apply for visas Tuesday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. without an appointment.

All other non-immigrant visa applicants must obtain an appointment for an interview. Appointments can be made within 2 days of calling.

General Information: Same day issuance and pick-up is available for visa appointment holders.

Visa processing time for applicants without appointments is two or three business days.

The American Citizen Services Section is open from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. The Notarial section is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m..

This office no longer accepts I-130 petitions.
