City of Charlottetown The City of Charlottetown is extremely proud of its very special place in history as the "The Birthplace of Confederation" for it was where the first meeting of the "Fathers of Confederation" was held. The City of Charlottetown, named in honour of Queen Charlotte of England, was incorporated as a city in 1855 and is 149 years old. The four large squares included in Samuel Holland's original layout of Charlottetown still exist to this day.

Government of PEI Prince Edward Island, is the smallest of the Canadian provinces both in size and population. While it is densely populated, it is not overcrowded. The Province is also called 'PEI', or simply 'The Island'. The capital city is Charlottetown.
They say that to be a 'true blue' Prince Edward Islander you must be born here. Otherwise, you're 'from away'. Despite this divine right to citizenship, Islanders adopt all who come to stay and its 1.2 million annual visitors. They come to the Island to enjoy its pastoral scenery, relaxing white sandy beaches and relaxing pace.
Agriculture, tourism, fishing and forestry are the economic mainstays of the PEI economy. The chief crop is potato, for which the Province is famous. This crop alone contributes to more than 40 percent of total farm cash receipts. About thirty percent of Canada's potatoes are grown in PEI. Other crops include cereals, and wide variety of fruits and vegetables including apples, strawberries, blueberries, and carrots, onions, and tomatoes.
